Third World Books Book Distribution 2018

GOAL: to support literacy locally and globally in a meaningful, manageable and reliable way.

LITTLE FREE LIBRARIES: TWB stocked books for LFL at St Paul’s Church and Disciples Christian Church Cleveland Hts, and Oxford Elementary, and Miles Park School Cleveland.

HONDURAS: CAMO LITERACY PROGRAM: 1150 books. Third World Books in collaboration with Global Mission at St. Paul’s and Central American Medical Outreach (CAMO) continued to supply books for 13 rural schools and a Day Care in Honduras. This year 1150 books were delivered by our counterpart.

EL SALVADOR: Third World books in collaboration with Los Amigos Episcopales supplied 57 Bibles and 108 Spanish/bilingual books for Episcopal Schools.

READING CAMP CLEVELAND received 150 books and crafts.

REACH OUT & READ: 100 books mostly board books as requested were supplied.

CLEVELAND CHRISTIAN HOME:  20 Bibles were supplied as requested. Subscriptions to National Geographic Kids, Sports Illustrated Kids, and Highlights were provided.

MOLIBANY PRIMARY SCHOOL IN TALEK KENYA: TWB utilized in part, memorial contributions for a Cleveland educator, and in collaboration with the Satao Wildlife Foundation supplied 600 grade 4-8 Kenyan curriculum textbooks and teacher manuals to a Maasai school. These were purchased in Kenya.

XOJOBAL: a trial donation of 3 books were provided to a missionary in Mexico.

CHURCH TUTORING PROGRAM PUERTO VALLARTA MEXICO: 30 Spanish books were hand carried to tutors for kindergarten and primary school students.

ST ANDREW’S CHURCH MOSCOW RUSSIA: a requested book was hand carried and delivered for this missionary church’s reconfigured Anglican Library.

PROMOTING EDUCATION & COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT (PEACE) HAITI: Requested  New Testaments 8 in French, and 25 in Haitian Creole were delivered by a board member.

Third World Books Book Distribution 2016

Goal: to support literacy locally and globally in a meaningful, manageable way.

Cleveland Christian Home Residential Treatment Center(CCH):  Third World Books has supplied20 Bibles for boys who requested them, purchased and delivered books for the boys to individually select one for their own when they are discharged.  Will Cheshier, TWB Graphic Designer & Webmaster designed and provided special bookplates for these books.

Central American Medical Outreach “CAMO Literacy Program”  Third World Books since 2013 has collaborated with CAMO & the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church’s Global Mission Action Group to supply Spanish books  for 10 rural school libraries and a day care Center. 625 books were delivered in March 2016. Each school has a Bob Cheshier memorial bookcase.

Los Amigos Episcopales (LAE):  Third World Books in collaboration with Los Amigos Episcopales, St Frances Community Trust and TELA Women sent Spanish books to two schools in El Salvador.

Little Free Libraries (LFL): Third World Books is responsible for the LFLs at Miles Park Elementary School, Cleveland, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Cleveland Hts. & helps to supply books at Disciples Christian Church/Hts Emergency Food Center, Cleveland Hts.  In addition, TWB is in the process of establishing a LFL at historic St. John’s Episcopal Church, planning  a LFL at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Cleveland, and in the Brooklyn area on the Cleveland west side. Oxford School in Cleveland Hts., Village Preperatory School, St. Luke’s Church and a Children’s Reading Garden in Cleveland

Reach out and Read MetroHealth Medical Center:  Third World Books is supplying books for MetroHealth Hospital’s Child Life & Education’s “Reach Out & Read” program in Cleveland. 130 books were delivered during a site visit in August. This is an ongoing program.

LTC Daniel Knaup, U.S. Army Command Chaplain for the 643rd Regional Support Group:   Third World Books through Armed Services Outreach Group at St. Paul’s Church received a request from Dan and purchased  15 copies of Refuge and Strength for him to distribute to chaplains and soldiers he visits throughout the Middle East.

Centre d’Estudes Collegialesa Chiboughmau Quebec:   Professor, Dr. Mark Curley requested several boxes of books to augment the limited collection of English books in the college library.  He picks up books when in Cleveland. This is a continued relationship started by Bob Cheshier.

Iglesia Christo del Mar tutoring program Puerto Vallarta, Mexico: A suitcase of Spanish books and school supplies was hand carried to the church for the tutoring program at a local primary school and a Hichol Indian settlement. This relationship was started in 2013.

Better World Books suggested by Bill Rubin Bob’s son in law – 50 cartons books

CAMO Literacy Program established libraries in 10 rural schools in Honduras a collaborative effort of Global Mission Action Group St Paul’s Church, Central American Medical Outreach, and Third World Books

LFL Cleveland Movement – this May alone, over 300 boxes of books were donated by TWB as we closed out Samsels warehouse space with Jesuits.

St. Paul’s LFL Bob Cheshier Memorial was purchased and installed by TWB and is stocked by steward and TWB Board Member Nancy Sherwin

Disciples Christian Church LFL sponsored and re-stocked by DCC Outreach Committee -TWB Board Member Ann Farmer is on the Outreach Committee and makes TWB books deliveries there approximately 300–books

Centre d’Estudes Collegiales a Chibougamau Quebec Dr.Mark Curley, professor and member of St Paul’s Church selected and transported 8 boxes of books.

Dr. Ranulfo Castro School Chalchuapa El Salvador A Task Force Northstar Project of US military and El Salvadoran military.TWB in collaboration with Armed Services Outreach St Paul’s sent reliably to APO of soldier school addition project director 2 boxes school supplies, 36 Spanish childrens books

Episcopal Schools in El Salvador – though collaboration with Los amigos Episcopales, Episcopal Church Women, TELA Women, and St Frances Community Services and the Bishop of ElSalvador 25 children’s books were displayed at General Convention of the Episcopal Church and will be transported to two Episcopal Schools in El Salvador.
